BBC World Debate on Water features Water Council representatives The BBC's World Debate on Water was filmed at Raffles Convention Center in Singapore during World Water Week between June 28 and July 2. By special invitation from the Institute of Water Policy, Claus Dunkelberg and Ted Barthel attended the debate. You can watch it online directly on the BBC site here. New School of Freshwater Sciences establishing two locations; UW Regents approve design work UWM's new School of Freshwater Sciences will operate from an expanded Great Lakes WATER Institute on E. Greenfield Avenue, as well as a new facility to be developed in the Reed Street Yards in the Menomonee Valley. Read more in the press release here. On June 11, the UW Board of Regents approved funds for design and renovation work on the School. Read more about that here.

Wall Street Journal profiles Milwaukee company - and perch Sweet Water Organics, Inc. got quite a write-up in Friday's Wall Street Journal. The article explored how the company, working with partners and academic institutions like the Great Lakes WATER Institute, is successfully raising perch, tilapia and other food sources in a former crane factory. Water Council announces funding for seven projects Funding from National Science Foundation grants, working with the UWM-Marquette academic partnership coupled with six local companies, will allow seven significant projects related to water technology and issues to move forward. Announced Friday, May 14, the project support is a result of the university and business collaboration known as the I/U CRC, or Industry/University Collaborative Research Center. First grants for UWM-Marquette Water Technology Center AnnouncedThe National Science Foundation announced a total of $675,000 in grants over the next five years to UWM and Marquette University for establishment of the I/U CRC (Industry-University Collaborative Research Center) that has been a key project of the Industry-University Linkages Committee. Water Council secures federal grant for economic development The Milwaukee 7 Water Council has just been awarded U.S. Department of Commerce grant to help with economic development and developing plans to enhance Milwaukee's freshwater processing and treatment capabilities. The grant was announced in statements by U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl and U.S. Rep Gwen Moore. The grant requires matching funds and will address a variety of goals the Water Council has set forth in its mission. Find out more from coverage here:
